MAF – Ministry of Agriculture & Fisheries

The Agri-food Systems and Climate (ASC) Explorer is Samoa’s first climate and agricultural information planning and policy discussion tool.

The ASC Explorer uses interactive maps that display current and long term projects for key climatic variables and potential risks and protective socio-economic factors to help inform policy and planning discussions for the agricultural sector.

The tool was developed with guidance from an Advisory Committee with the following members:

  • Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries,
  • The Pacific Community,
  • Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations,
  • Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment,
  • Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programmed
  • Scientific Research Organization of Samoa,
  • National University of Samoa, and
  • University of the South Pacific.

In addition to the Advisory Committee, the tool benefited from input from Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Labour, Samoa Bureau of Statistics, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (Meteorological Division), KVA Consult, Samoa Farmers Association, Market Development Facility, and Matuaileo’o Environment Trust Inc.
